RMRG to Defend Hydra in Colorado

The Rocky Mountain Rollergirls 5280 Fight Club will defend the WFTDA title in Broomfield, Colo., Nov. 11 through Nov. 13 at the WFTDA Championship Tournament.

Fight Club won their ticket to the championships by placing second at the WFTDA Western Regional Tournament in Porland in September. The tournament is sometimes called “Besterns” because the region is so competitive. The top three teams from the West, East, North Central, and South Central tournaments move on to the championship round.

RMRG won the 2010 championship by a single point over the Oly Rollers last November in Chicago and brought the Hydra to Colorado for the first time. Oly beat RMRG at regionals last month in what is developing into one of the hottest contested on-track rivalries in the nation.

No team has won back-to-back championships, but RMRG is looking to end that curse.

The 12-nation World Cup is scheduled from Dec. 1 through Dec. 4 in Toronto and will feature teams from Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, England, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, New Zealand, Scotland and Sweden.

Rocky Mountain and Gotham Girls Roller Derby of New York each had five skaters selected for the roster. The Oly Rollers of Olympia, Wash., have three skaters on the roster.

Red Ridin' Hoods win 2011 Colorado Home Team Tournament

RMRG’s Red Ridin’ Hoods pulled out a nail-biting victory over the powerhouse Denver Roller Dolls’ Shotgun Betties on Sunday, June 12, 2011, to bring home the first-ever Colorado Home Team Tournament title!

Four teams each from the Rocky Mountain Rollergirls and the Denver Roller Dolls competed Saturday and Sunday in the tournament. The Dolls hosted Day 1 at the Glitterdome and the Rollergirls hosted Day 2 at the War*house all to an audience of friends and family due to venue restrictions. We were honored by a Saturday visit from Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper, who accepted an invitation to come take in some of the world’s greatest sport and pose for photos with derby skaters and fans.

The teams were matched head-to-head for 30-minute bouts to determine which would meet in the final.

The Shotgun Betties represented DRD and the Hoods represented RMRG. The final score was 65-44 with the Hoods out on top.

Special thanks to the refs and NSOs for making this tournament possible. We can’t wait until next year!

Fan Power! LEARN YOUR RMRG CHEERS!

This is a big one, ladies and gentlemen!

This weekend, RMRG will host the all-powerful Oly Rollers of Olympia, Washington.

RMRG’s 5280 Fight Club is the only team to ever beat the Oly Rollers. Twice. Of course that second win was a doozie and RMRG took the WFTDA 2010 Championship by one little point after an epic battle on the track in Chicago last November.

In the stands a wild cheering section of RMRG skaters and fans channeled every last scrap of energy into Fight Club as they battled. And Fight Club heard us. Heck, the whole derby world heard us.

There are a few cheers that seemed to carry RMRG through the brutal tourny season and here we offer them to you. They are simple, but fun as heck to scream out. Your party bus host/esses can practice with you if you are shy. But if you have a voice on Sunday, you’re doing it wrong. Really, if you have a voice on Tuesday, you’re doing it wrong!

Get there and scream ‘til your head pops, Rollerfans!

There is the ever popular echo:
Call out: R-M!
Reply: R-G!

The fun and in-the-lead cheer!
Pump! Pump! Pump it up! Pump! Pump! Pump it up! (No clue where this came from, but there you have it.)

The RMRG Power Boost Cheer!
Call out: ROCKY, ROCKY, ROCKY!
Reply: FIGHT, FIGHT, FIGHT!

When you hear the call outs, be sure to yell it loud and proud! Bring the house DOWN, Colorado!

RMRG Fight Club vs. Oly Rollers Rematch

In November, there was the point heard ‘round the derby world.

RMRG’s 5280 Fight Club snatched the Hydra and WFTDA Championship from the 2009 champs, the Oly Rollers, in a last-moment, come-from-behind one-point victory.

For months, Fight Club has been a top target of one of the winningest teams in all of women’s derby. Oly wants this. Oly wants to snatch that W as Fight Club defends its title.

Meanwhile, RMRG is ranked No. 1 in every available derby ranking system and are the reigning champions of the world.

This bout is not to be missed. No. 1 vs. No. 2 in the ultimate grudge match on Denver soil.

If you think the crowd roared during the Portland bout, Denver is going to rock the top off of the Fillmore on June 4. Will you be there to witness this moment in history? Their last matchup is already ranking in the top moments in modern derby history.

You can ride a Party Bus to get there, hosted by RMRG skaters.
