What Year Did You Join Derby/RMRG? 2006 Would you like to brag about your skates? No, I think they’re a tad too big. I am thinking about going down a half size. I’m always adjusting something on them. Athletic or skating background: Built myself from the ground up baby! I haven’t been on skates since I was a little girl. I had no sports background or training just plain ol’ determination and passion for the game. Committees: Events and Warehouse Committees What is the background of your derby name? When I started roller derby I wanted a name and persona that I thought was the complete opposite of me and my everyday life. With a love of history and a fascination of dictators (how the hell do they manage to control people they way they do?!), I named myself after Idi Amin. He was the ruthless leader of Uganda from 1971 to 1979. I still remember watching the news and listening to reports of his cannibalism and his orders of mass killings of his own people. I’m not surprised that most people I meet have never even heard of Idi Amin. That’s another reason I took the name. I don’t think many give any thought to the numerous genocides that happen around the world in their lifetime. I also wanted to poke fun at a monster that thought he was the most important figure in the world; he was a physical giant of a man and by feminizing his name and putting it on a woman barely over 5’ tall, thought that would thumb my nose at him and other despots. |
